Pacers' Offense Clicks in 92-84 Win over Wilkes

Marywood ends three-game slide in high-scoring affair

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. — Six Marywood University players reached double figures to lift the Pacers to a 92-84 victory over Wilkes University in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday. The Pacers end a three-game slide with their best offensive performance of the season.

Holding on to a five-point advantage at halftime, Marywood (3-4) busted out of the break with 10 unanswered points over a four-minute span. A pair of Jason Holman free throws supplied the Pacers with a 55-40 advantage.

Wilkes only briefly came within single digits in the second half but made a valiant comeback effort in the end. A six-point run capped by a Sean Coller 3-pointer put the Colonels within two possessions (84-79) with 1:08 remaining in the game. In the last minute, Corey Perkins made 6 of 8 free throws, and Brandon Reed drained all four of his attempts from the charity stripe to ensure the victory.

Both Reed and Holman finished with team-high 18-point performances. Reed was perfect from the line with 12 free throws made.

Brendan Franko was 7 of 10 from the field for 16 points. Matt McKenna tallied a career-high 15 points.

Perkins dished out six assists, collected seven rebounds, and totaled 10 points in an all-around effort. Caleb Vigil came off the bench to produce 10 points.

It was a season-best outing for the Marywood offense. The Pacers made half of its attempts from the field. Free throws proved to be a deciding factor in the outcome. Marywood went 32 of 39 (82.1 percent) from the stripe, and Wilkes had a 72.7 percent mark on a 16-of-22 performance.

Wilkes (2-3) was aided by Drake Marshall's 20-point performance. Mathew Davidheiser had 18 points and nine boards. Trent Fisher finished with 16.

Despite both teams having an equal share of turnovers with 15 apiece, Marywood made the most of its chances, outscoring the Colonels 23-11 in points off takeaways.

Marywood found itself in an early 10-4 rut before a seven-point run was capped by a go-ahead Franko 3-pointer at the 15:55 mark. The cross-county teams traded leads seven times, and Franko connected on another 3-pointer to give the Pacers a 40-37 advantage that they would not relinquish.

The Pacers are idle until a Monday, Nov. 29 home tilt against Keystone College. The Pacers tip off with their former Colonial States Athletic Conference foe at approximately 8 p.m. following the women's game versus Penn State Hazleton.
