Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Holman, Franko Lead Pacers Past Keystone, 89-80

Scranton, Pa. - Jason Holman had a game-high 27 points and Brendan Franko added 20 as Marywood University men's basketball downed former conference foe Keystone College 89-80 Monday evening at the Insalaco Arena.

The win levels the Pacers' overall record at 4-4 while the Giants slipped to 2-5 with the loss.

Tone Cockrell and teammate Pete Laidley each had 24 for the visitors. Brendon Reed added 11 points to join Holman and Franko in double digits for Marywood.

Marywood shot a resounding 92% from the charity stripe for the game, going 3-for-3 in the first half and sinking 20 of 22 freebies in the second half. Overall. Marywood shot 52.7% from the field for the game, connecting on 29 of 55 field goals. Keystone also shot well from the field, hitting 47.2% of their shots, but the Giants went just 6 of 25 from three-point land (24%) and 6 of 14 (42.9%) from the free throw line.

Both benches contributed 19 points in the game. Marywood converted 15 Keystone turnovers into 23 points. Holman was 9-14 from the floor, including a 3-for-5 night from beyond the arc, and made all six of his free throws. He also grabbed 10 boards to complete the game's lone double-double.

Keystone was up eight (10-2) through five minutes of play and eventually led by 10 (18-8) after a Cockrell three with just under 13 minutes left in the first half. After going down by as many as 12 in the first, Marywood methodically chipped away at the Giants' lead and eventually took a 30-29 lead on a Holman lay-in with 3:29 left in the opening half. The two teams would eventually go into the locker room knotted at 40-40.

After the two teams traded buckets to open the second, Marywood used a 9-0 run over a two minute span to break things open. Keystone would not get back to within any less than five points the rest of the way.

The Giants found themselves down by as many as 19 later in the second (82-63), but would not go way. Despite closing the game on a 17-7 run, the Giants still fell by seven.

Marywood is back in action Saturday when they host King's College at 3:00 pm.
