Pacers Come Short in Esports Finals

Rocket League goes full seven games in loss to New England

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University's quest for an NECC championship in its inaugural season fell short over the weekend. The Overwatch team were shut out 4-0 to Howard Community College, and Rocket League came short to New England College 4-3 in a Best-of-Seven series. 

Both Overwatch and Rocket League teams reached the NECC finals. 

In Rocket League, Marywood took a two-game advantage by winning the first two matches. In the opener, James Marsh was the top point scorer with 532, finishing with a balanced game of a goal, two assists and two saves. Jacob Lutsky had a pair of goals. The Pacers won 3-2 in the second game with all three players factoring in with a goal. 

New England countered with a 3-2 win in the third game. 

Marywood forced match point after the 4-1 victory in the fourth game of the series. Kyle Jenkins posted a team-best 572 points. Jenkins finished with two goals and an assist on seven shots. Both Marsh and Lutsky scored a goal. 

The Pilgrims climbed back to force a deciding seventh game. New England won 5-2 and 3-1 in the fifth and sixth games, respectively. 

In the championship-deciding game, New England ousted Marywood by a 3-1 decision. Marsh had the Pacers' lone goal and finished with 372 points. Both Lutsky and Jenkins made a save.
