Marywood Overwatch Advances to NECC Championship

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University esports team advanced to NECC Overwatch championship with a 3-0 sweep over New England College on Thursday night. With this win, the second-seeded Pacers will take on No. 5 Howard Community College in the Emergents Yellow division final.

During the first round on the Control map Busan, the Pacers had a bit of a back and forth with their opponents. Using a Dive heavy comp lead by their Tank Valerio Amato, they are able to recapture the control map with ease. DPS's Nicholas Mendez and Steven Espana-Arias keep great control over the flow of the game during the second half of the round, getting important eliminations on the Pilgrims' Support and DPS players and preventing them from gaining any control over the map.

In second round of the match, the Hybrid map Blizzard World, Tank David Vito came out strong with a flank assault, throwing the opposing team off guard and giving his team the ability to make a clean push against their opponents. The Pacers were then able to hold of the Pilgrims the second half of the round, with Supports Tanner Fenstermacher and Cameron Gorman weakening the opponents offensive and allowing Tank Amato some major eliminations.

In the final round, taking place on the Assault map Anubis, the Pilgrims applied pressure during the first part of the round. The Pacers were able to hold them off and run down the clock, but ultimately fell during the first half. The later half of the match saw a blitz lead by Amato and Vito, allowing for Mendez to make a clean elimination of the entire opposition. Vito later used a massive flank attack, clearing half the opposing team and allowing for the Pacers to draw up the score with a massive amount of time (5:03) left on the clock. In the final part of the match, Vito's flanking and Mendez eliminations against the opponents Support and DPS led to the final victory over New England.

The Pacers will be competing in the NECC Playoff Finals this Sunday, Dec. 5. versus Howard.
