Pacers Open Season with Non-Conference Loss to Neumann

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University played its first men's lacrosse game in a calendar year with an 18-6 loss to Neumann University. The contest counts as a non-conference tilt as the Knights and Pacers are set to face off later this season in the Atlantic East. 

The Knights broke out of a 1-1 first period draw with seven unanswered goals. Marywood crawled back to come within four (8-4) before Neumann followed with an eight-goal run to set back the Pacers. 

Neumann enjoyed a pair of offensive juggernaut performances from Drew Conlon and Colin Blake. Conlon scored eight goals adn two assists for 10 points. Blake added four goals and five assists. Brett McLaughlin contributed a hat trick with three caused turnovers. 

Marywood was led by Zach Vaughan's two goals and an assist with a team-high seven ground balls. Jeff Johnsen added a goal and an assist. Patrick Dingwell scored two second-half goals. 

Dalton MetzgerAiden Kilkenny and Dingwell secured four ground balls. Joseph Guida caused two turnovers. 

Connor Reed made 15 saves in net for the Pacers. His counterpart Brendan Risley stopped 14 shots and allowed just six goals. 

Despite the scoreboard's reflection, Marywood trailed just 45-38 in shots and 43-37 in ground balls. Neumann dominated the faceoff-x with a 75 percent success rate. 

Marywood travels to Moravian College next weekend.
