Softball Sweeps Cazenovia in Return

Scranton, Pa. - Playing their first home series in 699 days, Marywood University swept visiting Cazenovia College 10-3 and 5-0 (6 innings) in doubleheader non-conference softball action Wednesday afternoon.

Jackie Burke went 4-for-7 with a homerun and two RBI while Emily Rose was 3-for-6 with four RBI for the Pacers in the two-game sweep of the Wildcats. Samantha Baltrusaitis also homered in the nightcap for the Pacers.

In the 10-3 opening game win, Mara Hamm struck out four and allowed two earned runs to get her first collegiate win on the mound. Burke was 3-for-4 with a homer while Rose had a double and triple as part of her 3-for-4, four RBI performance in her first game in a Pacers' uniform.

After a scoreless first two innings, Cazenovia grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third that was quickly negated by a four-run Marywood bottom half. Marywood used another four run inning, this time in the bottom of the sixth, to put the game out of reach.

In a shortened six-inning nightcap called because of darkness, a sac-fly from Baltrusaitis put the hosts up 1-0 in the second. An RBI doulbe from Nina Kozar doubled the Marywood lead in the third and was followed by a Burke RBI single to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead. Baltrusaitis would hit a two-run homer in the fourth over the centerfield fence to make it 5-0.

Gianna Marsico scattered eight hits and struck out four to get the complete-game win on the mound.

The Pacers (2-0) return to action Friday, March 26 when they open Atlantic East Conference action at Neumann University.
