Johnsen Ties Goals Record to Lead Pacers Past Saints on Senior Day

Scranton, Pa. – Jeff Johnsen celebrated his Senior Day by matching the Marywood University men's lacrosse school record for goals scored. Johnsen led the Pacers to a 19-13 upset victory over Marymount University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference action.

Johnsen scored eight goals and an assist, adding five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Johnsen tied Riley Dobel's long-time school record, set on April 20, 2013 against Immaculata University. His nine points tie for the fifth-most for a single game in a Marywood uniform.

Marywood (1-2, 1-0 Atlantic East) notched its first-ever victory over the Saints.

The Pacers celebrated their Senior Day by honoring Zach Bradbury, Joseph Guida, Patrick Dingwell, Jared Chichizola, Zach Vaughan and Johnsen. Collectively, they helped produce one of the biggest victories of their careers.

Vaughan tallied 15 ground balls, tying George Downey IV for the most single-game ground balls by a non-faceoff specialist in school history. Vaughan produced three goals and three assists for six points.

Dingwell scored three goals and two assists for five points. Bradbury won 18 of 30 faceoff chances with five ground balls.

Connor Reed made 24 saves, stopping two-thirds of the shots on goal faced. Reed tied Joe Magargal's 24-save effort versus Gwynedd Mercy in 2015 for the second-most saves in a single game at Marywood. He surpassed his career best by two stops. Reed also picked up five ground balls.

Matt Potter joined the starting lineup to make four ground balls. Eric Stewart tallied two goals and an assist. Aiden Kilkenny scored twice.

Marywood made the best of a non-releasable penalty with four man-up goals to take a 9-4 lead in the first half. After Johnsen gave Marywood the advantage with his fourth first-quarter goal, the Pacers found the net four times in a 1:38 stretch. Johnsen capped the scoring run later with a tally from Vaughan to supply a six-goal lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half.

Marymount (1-2, 0-1 Atlantic East) swung the momentum back in its favor by taking six of the next seven goals. The Saints kicked off the second half with three unanswered goals in less than four minutes. Sebastian Radovic's man-up tally from Hunter Ralston put the Saints within just one after being down by six in the second quarter.

Vaughan put a stop to the Saints' equalizer hopes, scoring an unassisted goal at the 5:07 mark of the third quarter. Johnsen increased the lead to three 40 seconds later. He tied the school record with 1:55 left in the third quarter to make it a 14-11 lead.

Marywood secured the victory with a four-goal rally in the fourth period.

Jack Williams had four goals and four ground balls for the Saints. Joseph Sciortino picked up seven ground balls, and Jonah Mackiewicz added six ground balls.

Marymount outshot Marywood 58-48 and 37-34 on target. The Saints also held a 57-54 lead in ground balls.
