Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Mighty Macs in Defensive Battle

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University survived a 6-4 clash with Immaculata University Wednesday to stay unbeaten in Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse play. The Pacers played their lowest-scoring game since the shot clock rule went into effect in 2017.

The 10 goals are the lowest since a 6-3 loss to crosstown University of Scranton in 2015.

Ben Mustakos recorded his first hat trick since 2019. Mustakos was responsible for half of the team's scoring with three goals.

Patrick Dingwell matched him with three points on two goals and an assist.

On defense, Joseph Guida tallied a team-high eight ground balls. Seth Croll provided six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Zach Vaughan, Zach Bradbury, and Eric Stewart each had five ground balls. Jeff Johnsen and Stewart also caused three turnovers.

Immaculata goalkeeper Cole Metzger tied his school record with 28 saves. Connor Reed made nine stops for the Pacers.

Marywood ended nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action with a Mustakos tally from Kieran Scanland with 5:39 left in the first period. Jackson Fonseca-Webb evened the score on a man-up goal at 11:27 of the second quarter.

The Pacers (2-2, 2-2 Atlantic East) rattled four unanswered goals in a nine-minute span of the second period. Aiden Kilkenny fired a Vaughan feed to reclaim the lead. Mustakos had back-to-back goals that punctuated by a Dingwell score.

The Mighty Macs halved their deficit to two on a pair of Steven Long goals in the third quarter. Zach Saneman fed a Dingwell goal with 8:56 to increase the lead to 6-3. Sean Evans put up a last-chance effort for Immaculata with 93 seconds remaining. Jared Chichizola scooped up a ground ball following a Reed save, and Stewart caused a turnover that was picked up by Croll to end the game.

Marywood looks to stay undefeated in conference play on Saturday when it travels to Wesley College for the last time.
