Women's Lacrosse Falls to Saints in Overtime

Arlington, Va. - Marywood University suffered its first Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse loss in a 15-14 overtime setback to Marymount University on Saturday. The Saints' Taylor Young netted a woman-up goal with 65 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. 

Kayla McCabe led the Pacers with a career-high five points on four goals and an assist. Natalie Walker provided three goals and an assist for four points. 

Marywood was also led by multi-point efforts from Brielle Peters (2g-1a), Emma Solomon (2g) and Mikayla Matthews (1g-1a). 

Defensively, Sami Stein and Solomon each had four ground balls. 

Peters provided a team-best six draw controls. Melanie Wittick and Matthews each picked up three draws. 

Emily Dyminski made 15 saves for the Pacers. The Saints' Mariel Russ had four stops. 

Riley Love led the Saints with five goals. Emily Peters had a hat trick.

Marymount outshot the Pacers by a 41-23 margin. Marywood had a 16-15 advantage in draw controls, and the Saints enjoyed a 24-19 advantage in ground balls. 

The Pacers (1-1) went on a five-goal first half run to take an 8-3 advantage on Walker's woman-down goal with 11:15 remaining. For the next 20 minutes of regulation, Marymount went on a 7-1 advantage. Madison Davis lifted Marymount to a 10-9 lead at the 22:37 mark of the second frame. 

Each team traded leads back four times until Love scored back-to-back goals to take a 14-12 advantage with 8:12 left. Solomon cut the disadvantage in half at 4:52. McCabe converted a free-position shot to square the score at 14 apiece with 1:57 on the clock.. Dyminski made two saves, including one at the buzzer, to ensure the overtime period. 

In the overtime period, Marywood won the first draw but a turnover quickly gave the Saints' possession. Young scored the game-winning goal on a free-position chance. 

The Pacers will resume Atlantic East play on Wednesday, April 7 at Immaculata.
