Four Roundtrippers Not Enough in Pacers' Loss to Cavaliers

Radnor, Pa. - Four home runs were not enough to give Marywood University its first notch in the Atlantic East Conference baseball win column. The Pacers suffered a 16-8 loss to Cabrini University on Thursday.

The Cavaliers came back from a four-run deficit in the third inning to prevail over the Pacers.

Max Slusser hit just the sixth multi-home run game in school history. Slusser hit a pair of solo home runs in a 2 for 3 outing at the plate. They marked the first two home runs of his collegiate career.

Marywood matched a school record with four home runs, marking the fourth time in program history the Pacers have hit four roundtrippers.

Jake Schuster established a new career record with his 15th home run in a Marywood uniform. Schuster went 2 for 5 with two runs and a double.

Vinny D'Auria batted 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Ben Gravel scored twice and hit a home run. Scott Becker reached base three times on walks.

Cabrini's Steven Priest hit 3 for 6 with six RBI, three runs scored, and two home runs. Eight of the nine Cabrini starters recorded a base hit.

Marywood took an early four-run lead, thanks to three home runs in the first three innings. Slusser hit a solo shot down the left line to take the early lead in the top of the second. The Pacers tacked on three more in the third inning. Gravel led off with a solo home run, and Schuster hit a two-out homer. Michael Tempel doubled to center field to supply the Pacers with a 4-0 advantage.

Cabrini responded with two runs in each of the next four innings. Garrett Laraia gave Cabrini a 6-4 lead with a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth.

Slusser's second solo homer cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth.

Marywood and Cabrini will resume their series on Saturday with a doublehead at Pacers Field beginning at noon.
