Marywood Bids Adieu to Nine Seniors with 15-7 Win

Women's Lacrosse moves to 3-1 on the season

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University registered a 15-7 victory over Wesley College Saturday to remain in the hunt for a top seed in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse playoffs. The Pacers (3-1) won their second consecutive game to remain in a tie for second with Marymount University.

Marywood honored nine upcoming graduates as part of its Senior Day ceremonies. Marywood University and Coach Kerrie Brown honored Lilli Foote, Mikayla Matthews, Abbie Laime, Natalie Walker, Maeve MacKenna, Brielle Peters, Maddy Langlotz, Sami Stein and Melanie Wittick

Seniors Sami Stein and Melanie Wittick did the brunt of the work on defense. Stein collected seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Wittick grabbed five ground balls and nine draw controls.

Offensively, the Pacers were led by Kayla McCabe with four goals, two assists for six points. Both Natalie Walker and Emma Solomon each supplied three goals and an assist.

Four other Pacers recorded multi-point efforts. Brielle Peters finished with two goals and an assist for three points. Ashley Cunningham and Mikayla Matthews each notched a goal and an assist. Lauren Matarazzo provided two assists.

Emily Dyminski had six saves in the victory. Her counterpart Katelyn Porter made nine stops.

Wesley's Catherine Bennett provided a hat trick. Kassie Dieter secured three draws, and Emily Caldarelli posted four ground balls.

Marywood opened the game with a Peters tally from a Matthews pass. Thirteen seconds later, McCabe added an unassisted goal to take a 2-0 lead at 25:38.

Bennett had all of the Wolverines' scoring in the first half, cutting the disadvantage to 2-1 at 19:54 and 6-2 at 3:41.

Peters opened the second half by controlling the draw and scoring outright to take an 8-2 advantage. McCabe's goal from a backdoor Matarazzo assist gave the Pacers their largest lead (12-3) of the game at 17:01.

Wesley outscored Marywood 4-1 to avert the running clock.

Marywood will play for the right to force a three-way tie for first place with an away game at rival Cabrini University on Thursday. The Pacers and Cavaliers have faced off in the past three conference championship games.
