Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pacers Bounce Back to Triumph over Knights

Marywood to host Immaculata as No. 3 seed in Atlantic East first round

Scranton, Pa. - Kayla McCabe and the Marywood University women's lacrosse team showed determination to rebound from their second Atlantic East Conference loss of the season. In their regular season finale, the Pacers found their rhythm with nine of the first 11 goals scored.

The Pacers secured the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East playoffs with a decisive 17-6 victory over Neumann University on Saturday. Marywood matched its second largest margin of victory of the truncated season.

McCabe set new career highs with six goals, four assists for 10 points.

Emma Solomon secured a hat trick, coupled with three ground balls. Brielle Peters provided two goals and an assist. Among the other multi-point scorers were Mikayla Matthews (1g-1a), Natalie Walkers (2g) and Abbie Laime (2a).

Senior Melanie Wittick scored her first goal since her freshman season to complement her seven draw controls. Peters had two caused turnovers and four draw controls.

Defensively, the Pacers were guided by Sami Stein's five ground balls and Hadley Gilbert's three grounders. Emily Dyminski stopped eight shots.

Walker wasted little time with a goal from Laime in the first minute of play. At the 22:13 mark, Peters sent a McCabe give past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.

After Lindsey Fagan halved the Pacers' advantage, McCabe scored three consecutive goals in just a 2:24 span to increase the Pacers' lead to 5-1. The Knights' Jay Murray ended McCabe's run on a woman-up tally; however, a quartet of Pacers scored in less than three minutes to increase the lead. Wittick picked up a draw and charged to the net to take a 9-2 lead with 7:06 left in the half.

Marywood's midfield play showed its prowess by keeping the Knights to an 8 for 17 success rate on clears.

The Pacers will welcome the sixth-seeded Mighty Macs on Saturday, April 24 at either noon or 1 p.m.
