MacKenna Sends Pacers to Atlantic East Semis with Double OT Winner

#3 Marywood to take on second-seeded Marymount on Wednesday

Scranton, Pa. - Defender Maeve MacKenna used her sure-handed stick handling to deliver Marywood University its desperately needed game-winning goal. The Pacers defeated Immaculata University with an 8-7 double overtime victory in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse first round.

MacKenna picked an Emma Solomon pass out of the air and redirected it to the back of the net to solidify the Pacers' place in the Atlantic East semifinals. The Pacers will travel to second-seeded Marymount University in a rematch of a regular season overtime loss.

Immaculata University rebounded from an early 4-0 deficit within the first 10 minutes. The Mighty Macs scored five consecutive goals and held the Pacers scoreless for 35 minutes.

After the Macs' Tessa Liberatoscioli put the Mighty Macs ahead 5-4 with less than 20 minutes remaining, Mikayla Matthews ended the scoring drought with an equalizer from Brielle Peters six minutes later. Emma Solomon drove in for an unassisted goal at the 8:32 mark to take a 6-5 lead.

Immaculata twice evened the score in the waning minutes. Liberatoscioli tied the game at 6-6 with 7:45 remaining. Forty seconds following the Pacers' Kayla McCabe's go-ahead goal, Immaculata sent the game to overtime with an Ashley Hankin goal from Maura Murray with 33 seconds left in regulation.

Natalie Walker led the Pacers' scoring with two goals. Solomon finished with a team-high three points (1g-2a) and seven ground balls. Peters and Matthews each had a goal and an assist.

Sami Stein finished with seven ground balls. Melanie Wittick totaled five draw controls. Alaina Brenneman caused three turnovers with four grounders, and Abbie Laime finished with four ground balls.

Emily Dyminski made 11 saves to capture the victory in net. Her counterpart Katie Mulvey garnered seven saves.

Playing in potentially her final home contest, senior Lilli Foote scored her first career goal. Foote rifled a one-timer off a Sami Stein feed to take a 2-0 lead less than four minutes into regulation.

Immaculata outshot Marywood by a 30-24 margin, and the Pacers coughed up 27 turnovers to the Mighty Macs' 20. Marywood edged the Macs 30-27 in ground balls, and both teams finished with nine draws.

In the first overtime period, Brenneman took a charge to take over possession. MacKenna's game-winning goal was initiated by a Dyminski save on a Murray shot and a subsequent Wittick ground ball.
