Baseball Falters to Immaculata to Close Series with Mighty Macs

Scranton, Pa. - Visiting Immaculata University scored 4-3 and 12-5 victories over host Marywood University as the Mighty Macs closed a sweep of the Pacers in Atlantic East Conference baseball action.

Immaculata remained perfect in league play (9-0) while keeping the Pacers winless (0-9) in the league. The Mighty Macs are now 13-1 overall while Marywood stands at 3-10.

Resuming game one play from Saturday's twinbill that was suspended and had the Mighty Macs trailing 2-1 after two innings, the visitors scored two runs in the third to take a lead. RJ Mason's two-run double put Immaculata up 3-2 in the third. A sac fly from Scott Decker tied the game for Marywood in the fifth, but Isaiah Payton's solo homer in the fifth gave the Mighty Macs the win.

Michael Aronica suffered the loss despite striking out four and allowing just two hits in four innings. Morgan Theobald had a double and triple while Jake Schuster tripled as well.

In the nine inning nightcap, Marywood took a 4-1 lead into the fifth before Immaculata used a five-run inning to reclaim a lead they would not relinquish again. The Mighty Macs piled on 11 runs over the final five innings en route to the 12-5 win.

Max Slusser doubled twice for Marywood in the loss, while Decker and Ben Gravel also hit two-baggers. Michael Tempel went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Pacers.

Marywood is at Wesley College Friday at 3:00 pm.
