Baseball Beats Neumann 12-5, Remains in Playoff Hunt

Scranton, Pa. - James Myers hit a grand slam to highlight a 10-run second inning for Marywood University as the Pacers beat visiting Neumann University 12-5 in Atlantic East Conference baseball action Friday afternoon.

The Pacers (7-13, 4-11 AEC) remain in the hunt for post-season consideration. Wins over the Knights (5-11) in tomorrow's regular season final doubleheader would help the Pacers' chances.

A run on a throwing error gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the first, but a Scott Becker single to right in the home half of the inning knotted the game at 1-1.  After taking a 3-1 lead in the second on a wild pitch and RBI single from Morgan Theobald, Jake Schuster broke things open with a three-run triple to right.

The Pacers would then load the bases up for Myers, who brought all runners home with a homer to left, getting his first career jack in a big way with a grand slam.

Neumann got two runs back over the fourth and fifth innings, but Marywood got themselves out of several jams to keep the threat at bay. A RBI double from Scott Becker in the sixth gave Marywod their 12th and final run.

Nick Notari (3-2) got the win after striking out three and allowing one earned run on six hits. Tyler Quick struck out four in two innings of relief, and Danny Becker got three consecutive outs to close the game on the mound for the Pacers.

Marywood and Neumann will begin game one of tomorrow's twinbill at 12:00 pm in Aston.
