Marywood Unable to Find Equalizer in 3-2 Loss to Rutgers-Newark

Newark, N.J. - Marywood University was unable to climb back from a fury of goals allowed in a 3-2 loss to Rutgers-Newark Wednesday in men's soccer. The Scarlet Raiders kept Marywood without a shot for the final 19 minutes. 

Both teams combined for a chaotic three goals scored in 2:29. Marywood's Danny Gomez scored his first career goal on a Richard Fuchs assist to even the score at 1-1 in the 17th minute. A mere 30 seconds later, Newark's Ryan Caruso had a go-ahead goal. Franco Catania gave the Scarlet Raiders a 3-1 advantage less than two minutes later on a Christian Nunez assist. 

Mason Guelho cut the disadvantage in half with a goal in the 56th minute. Hunter Iverson supplied the assist. 

Marywood had one more shot at an equalizer in the 71st minute. Fuchs delivered a shot to the top-right corner that was stopped by Newark's goalkeeper Christian Andrach. 

Alex Russo made three saves for the Pacers. Andrach matched him with three stops. 

Rutgers-Newark outshot Marywood 19-6 but only had a 6-5 edge on target. The Scarlet Raiders had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

Marywood will host University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon.
