Volleyball Off to Best Start Since 2012

Corr, Klemovitch combine for 30 kills

Delhi, N.Y. — Marywood University responded to an early extra-point loss to rattle off three straight sets in a 3-1 victory over SUNY Delhi Thursday in non-conference volleyball action. With two wins in as many days, the Pacers enjoy their best start since their 2012 season.

Marywood won by scores of 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 25-14.

Shannon Corr led the Pacers (2-0) with 16 kills and 10 digs. Rebecca Klemovitch recorded a team-best 20 points with 14 kills, five total blocks, and an ace.

Marywood had five players record double-digit digs. Libero Donna Bostancic finished with a team-high 18 digs. Evangeline Kelly and Sara Burgos provided 11, and Annie Heyen matched Corr with 10.

Burgos remained errorless on the season with 39 assists. Casey Hagerstrom had four aces and seven kills.

Delhi was led by Bailee Jones' 10 kills, 17 digs and .300 hitting percentage. Chloe Elsenbeck had 14 digs.

In the first set, both teams traded leads throughout the contest. Marywood averted set point with three straight, capped by a Klemovitch ace to go ahead 25-24. Delhi scored three unanswered points to open with a 27-25 win. Jones and Lexi Taylor had a block to take the lead, and the Broncs closed on an attack error.

Delhi hung around in the second set. Leading 17-16, Corr started the Pacers' momentum to the finish with a kill. Amanda Perri had an ace, and the Pacers scored on an attack error to take a 20-16 lead. Delhi closed within two (20-18), and Marywood tallied three straight — led by an Emily O'Brien kill — to gain a comfortable distance. Marywood tied the match at 1-1 with a double block from Corr and Klemovitch.

Marywood dug itself a hole in the third set, trailing by a 6-2 margin early on. Three straight points allowed Klemovitch to even the set at 9-9 with a kill. The Broncos (0-2) took a five-point lead when a Whitney Clersainvil kill put them ahead. Trailing 19-16, Marywood used an 8-1 run to break away, tying the score on a Meek ace. Klemovitch sealed set point with a kill.

Trailing by one, Marywood went on an eight-point run on Hagerstrom serves to put away the deciding set.

The Pacers had nine aces to the Broncos' four. They shot .122 for the match.

Marywood looks to add to its win total on Saturday when it travels to the Diamond City to take on Wilkes University at 10 a.m. and College of Mount Saint Vincent at noon. Fans should note that tri-match opponents and game times have changed from the original schedule.
