Tzitzis Nets Hat Trick, Pacers Roll to Season-Opening Win

Marywood picks up first season opening win since 2008

Scranton, Pa. - Victoria Tzitzis recorded a hat-trick to power Marywood University women's soccer to their first season opening win since 2008 as the Pacers rolled past Keystone College 7-1 in non-conference action Thursday evening.

Marywood outshot the Giants (0-1) by a 49-1 margin. The Pacers placed 25 of those shots on goal.

Antonella Doglio opened the scoring 12:45 into the contest, scoring off a feed from the left perimeter by Josephine Sorce.  Sorce would then connect with Tzitzis at the 29:08 mark for her second assist of the game as the Pacers went up 2-0.

In the 33rd minute, Keystone's Rylee Robinson scored on a directed kick from near midfield that snuck under the Marywood keeper, making it a one goal game. The score would remain 2-1 at the half despite the host's 21-1 advantage in shots.

Marywood's offense found the net quickly in the second frame, as Madison Blackshire recorded her first collegiate goal, putting home a rebound on a shot from Marissa Boles that was blocked by a Keystone defender. Boles was credited with the assist.

Boles would then find the back of the net herself, following her own blocked shot to find the back of the net and get her first collegiate tally.

In the 60th minute, Caroline Plank found Tzitzis in the middle of the field to put Marywood up 5-1. Plank then scored off an Antonella Doglio corner kick in the 75th, and Tzitzis closed the scoring in the 77th off a feed from Boles.

Three Marywood keepers split time. Rebekah Becker started and was replaced by Bella DiToma in the second half. Victoria Talarico closed the game in net.

Marywood's opening game win is the first for the Pacers since 2008 when they defeated Johnson & Wales, 3-0 at the Hartwick College Erinn K. Brozman Cup. The Pacers were 0-10-2 in that stretch of openers, tying Wilkes 0-0 in 2015 and Hartwick 1-1 in 2013.

Marywood (1-0) returns to action Sunday when they travel to New Jersey to face regional power Montclair State University. Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Montclair.
