Field Hockey Wins 3rd Straight, Downs Cedar Crest 7-1

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's field hockey team got seven goals from seven different players en route to a 7-1 win over Cedar Crest. The Pacers' third consecutive victory pushed their record to 5-3 on the season.

Lauren Youngken opened the scoring 3:56 into Saturday's non-conference tilt, tapping in her own saved shot. In the 12th minute, Youngken played a cross in front of the cage where Brianna Sumner put it away to double the host's lead.

In the 26th minute, Sara Thomas scored on an Amanda Leeland cross, and 10 minutes later Milana Straub made it 4-0 in Marywood's favor by tapping in a cross from Cydney Lahr.

Cassie Slusser got in on the scoring in the 48th minute, blasting in a shot from a tough angle along the endline that went in at the far post.  Mackenzie Hoats scored on the first of back-to-back assists from Sami Abbinanti at the 55:16 mark, then Angie Genter followed suit on a Abbinanti helper just 20 seconds later.

Cedar Crest's Amber Cieri ruined the shutout bid, finishing a Kiley Marone pass by blasting it in the cage from 10 yards out.

The Falcons fell to 2-5 on the year after being outshot 24-8 by the Pacers, who held a 24-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 19-8 lead in penalty corners.  Rachel Yohn picked up the win in goal, not having to make a save in 45 minutes of play.  Gabriella Pimentel made two stops in 15 minutes.

The Pacers host Delaware Valley University Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
