Men's Soccer Comes Short Versus Susquehanna

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University was unable to find an equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Susquehanna University Wednesday in non-conference men's soccer action.

Hunter Iverson scored a penalty kick goal in the 59th minute to cut the River Hawks' lead to one.

Marywood edged the River Hawks 11-10 in shots and 6-5 in shots on goal. The Pacers had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning. Peter Vassilakos' throw-in found the head of Brian McKee on the far side. McKee headed it into goal to take the early lead.

The Pacers followed with a pair of close chances in the early goings. Mike Ingenito sprinted down the right side and sent a cross that was cleanly headed by Fuchs. His shot was met by Gerrit Stech, who again lifted it over the cross bar in the 30th minute.

Susquehanna doubled its lead in the 54th minute. Joe Armstrong's cross into the box found Olivier Mathieu's foot for a 15-yard blast.

After Marywood cut the lead in half on Iverson's goal in the 59th minute, Marywood had three shots. Mithil Kurup came on for a shot on target in the 62nd that stoppec by Stech.

Alex Russo made two saves. Stech had five stops.

Marywood is idle until it starts Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The Pacers take on Immaculata University at 4 p.m. on their home turf.
