Marywood Slips to Wilkes on Road

Edwardsville, Pa. - Wilkes University scored two first half goals and added a third with less than two minutes to play to top visiting Marywood University 3-1 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday evening. Marissa Boles scored for the Pacers.

In the 32nd minute of play, Sarah Eliff found herself on a breakaway that was initially stopped by Marywood's Rebekah Becker, but the rebound went right back to the foot of Eliff who tucked it home to put the Colonels (3-5) up 1-0.  Just over a minute later, Emily Bidelspach put a beautiful curling ball into the far post to double the hosts' lead.

Boles made things interesting early in the second half. After escaping a defensive jam in the corner, Elizabeth Levine's cross found the foot of Boles who scored near-post to cut the Pacers' deficit in half.

Marywood (4-4) continued to withstand the Wilkes attacking pressure until the final moments of the game when they pushed numbers forward. On a counter, Katie Sites found Bidelspach inside the six. Bidelspach spun past one defender to beat Becker for the game's final tally.

Becker recorded a game, season and career high 18 saves on 21 Wilkes shots on goal.

Marywood travels to Cazenovia Sunday for a 1:00 pm non-conference tilt.
