Men's Basketball Ends Slide at Centenary

Hackettstown, N.J. - A 14-5 run over a five minute span proved to be the difference as Marywood University upended host Centenary University 90-76 Wednesday evening in Atlantic East men's basketball action.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Pacers, who picked up their first league win in improving to 6-8 (1-1 AEC) on the year. The Cyclones dropped to 6-6 (1-1 AEC) with the loss.

Adam Boussatta poured in a game-high 28 points while Brendan Franko (21), Jason Holman (20) and Brandon Reed (12) all reached double figures. Boussatta was 12 of 17 from the floor and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed a game-high 12 boards to complete his first double-double of the year. His 28 points tied a career-high he set in February 2020 against Gwynedd Mercy. Franko and Holman eached knocked down four three pointers as part of their hot shooting nights.

Trailing 66-63 with 8:42 to play, that 14-5 run put Marywood up for good, giving the Pacers a 77-68 lead. In that span, Marywood went 4-of-6 from three point range. Franko's pull-up jumper with 1:49 to go gave the Pacers a double-digit cushion they would hold on to the rest of the way.

As impressive as the second-half Marywood run was, it was equally impressive that the Pacers climbed back into the game after trailing by 15 (43-28) at the break. The Pacers opened the second half on a 18-5 run to close the gap to 49-46, then took their first lead of the second half on a Boussatta layup to go up 52-51.

After going back-and-forth with the Cyclones over the next four minutes, Franko ignited Marywood's final push by connecting on a three.

Both teams shot well from the floor, with Marywood connecting on 52.9% of their efforts and Centenary hitting at a 46.2% clip. The Pacers had the edge behind the arc, hitting 10 of 19 (52.6%) compared to the hosts' 27.3% (6 of 22) effort. Marywood also enjoyed a 40-31 rebounding edge.

Marywood is back in action Saturday when they travel to Cabrini for a 3:00pm league matchup.
