Men's Basketball Stunned in Overtime

Scranton, Pa. — A buzzer beater to end regulation enabled Gwynedd Mercy University to post an 86-83 overtime victory over Marywood University Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's basketball action. The Pacers were clipped by a Justin Collins 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime. 

It marks the Pacers' third consecutive game decided by exactly three points. 

Jason Holman finished with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Holman shot 12 of 21 from the field and added a pair of blocks. He posted his second consecutive and seventh overall 20-plus point game. 

Marywood was also led by Adam Boussatta's 19 points. Trevor Seitz provided 16 points, and Brendan Franko added 12 points. 

Corey Perkins and Seitz each helped their team's cause with six assists. 

A back-and-forth game that featured 22 lead changes began with a 14-point Gwynedd Mercy run to open the game. In spite of the early hole, Marywood quickly clawed its way back, thanks to a 15-5 margin in the next eight minutes. Boussatta gave Marywood a 20-19 lead with a pair of free throws at the 20-19 mark. The Griffins ended the first half on an 8-2 run to head into the break with a 35-31 advantage. 

Neither team led by more than two possessions  in the second half. A Holman jumper in the paint supplied the Pacers with a 67-65 advantage with 2:49 left. The Griffins' Ty Jones connected on a 3-pointer with 2:06 left to reclaim the lead. Seitz and Perkins did their best to retake the lead on free throws after the Griffins' Manny Clark made a fast-break jumper in the paint. 

Boussatta extended the lead to three with a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left. Gwynedd Mercy's Collins hit a 3-pointer in the corner on an assist by Keith Otto to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, Gwynedd Mercy tallied the first seven points. Marywood was able to cut its deficit to four on a Seitz 3-pointer with 14 seconds left. Jones made one of his two free throws to seal the win. 

The Griffins' Jones finished with 23 points. Clark totaled 17 points, seven assists and nine rebounds. 

Marywood continued its form at the charity stripe. the Pacers made 15 of 16 attempts for a 93.8 percent mark. 

The Pacers look to get back into the win column on Saturday against Immaculata University at 3 p.m.
