Second Half Surge Lifts Immaculata Over Marywood in AEC Battle

Scranton, Pa. - Visiting Immaculata University salvaged a regular-season split with Marywood University after the Mighty Macs battled back from a 15 point second half deficit to secure a 67-62 win Thursday evening at the Insalaco Arena.

The win moves the Mighty Macs to 3-2 in the Atlantic East and 6-11 overall while the Pacers slip to 7-11 (2-4 AEC). Marywood had edged Immaculata 81-78 on the road on January 24. In that game, Trevor Seitz's three pointer with two seconds left held off a Mighty Mac second half rally, but the Pacers could not hold off the visitors this time.

Immaculata used a 19-5 run over a 7:48 span to start the second half to erase a 37-22 deficit and tie the game at 41-41 with just under 11 minutes remaining. Over the next six minutes, neither team would hold more than a five-point lead, but Marywood would go just 1-for-10 from the field during that span. Marywood managed to keep it close by sinking four free throws, but the Mighty Macs would control the action the rest of the way to secure the road win.

Neither team shot well overall in an evenly played match, with Marywood hitting 37.9% and Immaculata hitting 37.3%, both hitting 22 field goals for the evening. Immaculata was 5 of 20 from beyond the arc while Marywood was 6 of 18. At the charity stripe, the visitors went 18 of 29 (62.1%) and the Pacers hitting 12 of 19 (63.2%). Immaculata held a slim 41-39 edge in rebounds. The key advantage in the game came from Immaculata's bench, who outscored that of Marywood's 25-6.

Tyler Tillery led all scorers with a game-high 18 points for the Mighty Macs. Tim Schultice had a double-double for the visitors with 16 points and a game best 11 boards.

Adam Boussatta and Seitz had 15 apiece for Marywood with reigning AEC Player of the Week Jason Holman still reaching double digits but being held to 11.

Marywood is on the road at Marymount (Va.) this Saturday. The AEC matchup tips off at 4:00 pm.
