New-Look Pacers Suffer Setback to Saints

Scranton, Pa. - After erasing a double-digit deficit completely, a new-look Marywood University women's basketball roster was unable to sustain its comeback in a 69-53 loss to defending Atlantic East Conference champion Marymount University on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers featured a pair of Landmark Conference transfers making their first appearance at the Insalaco Arena.

Marywood vanished a 13-point Marymount lead after the first quarter. Trailing 22-9, the Pacers opened the second stanza with 15 unanswered points in a 3:30 span. Faith Kendricks hit a jumper just inside the arc at the 7-minute mark to even the score at 22 apiece. On the next possession, after collecting an offensive board, Kilie Wyers gave the Pacers their first lead of the game on an unassisted layup in the paint.

The Saints soon regained the lead, and University of Scranton transfer Abbey McGee knocked down a jumper in the pain to square the score at 26-26 with 2:32 remaining. Marymount went on a 6-1 run to close the first half and head into halftime with a 32-27 advantage.

A trio of Pacers -- Savannah Purdy, Wyers and McGee -- each led the team with 14 points. Stephanie Klemick tallied four blocks. McGee's presence on the court showed an impact with a 6 plus/minus rating with 24 minutes played.

Susquehanna transfer Olivia Ciullo tallied five points in 11 minutes of action during her Marywood debut.

Marymount's Ava Achtyl finished with a game-high 19 points. Chandler Eddleton was a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Achtyl and Anna Schools combined to go 17-of-18 from the free-throw line.

The Saints (6-6, 1-0 AEC) dominated off the glass with a 48-31 advantage in rebounds.

Marymount used a 10-point run to start the third quarter to dig Marywood into a hole. The Pacers had a nine-point swing in the fourth quarter that trimmed the Saints' lead in half. McGee knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a 57-48 advantage with two minutes left in regulation.

Marywood is idle until hosting Neumann University on Saturday, Jan. 15.
