Pacers Hold Off Griffins' Rally for 4-3 VIctory

Darren Hyde makes game-saving stop in last minute

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University held off a second half Gwynedd Mercy University challenge to cling on to a 4-3 victory Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's soccer competition. The win ensures the Pacers' most conference wins since joining the Atlantic East in 2018.

Richard Fuchs led the Pacers with two goals. Kyle Falcon scored a goal, and Danny Gomez finished with an assist.

Darren Hyde made three saves, including one off of a corner kick challenge in the last minute, to secure the victory.

Marywood (7-6, 2-1 Atlantic East) jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first half.

Falcon scored in the fifth minute. On the left side of the next, Gomez reversed the ball to set up Falcon's third strike of the season.

Marywood added another goal in the 18th minute when a Griffins defender knocked in a cross. Fuchs increased the lead when he was fouled inside of the box and completed the penalty kick in the 29th minute.

Gwynedd Mercy scored within the first two minutes of the second half. Mike Fienman notched a goal from Mert Yildirim.

Fuchs completed the brace in the 72nd minute, finding the far side of the net on a tight angle.

The Griffins quickly scored five minutes later when Kasey Wallace finished a Fienman feed. In the 84th minute, Wallace secured his brace on a double-assisted play. Kevin Hanuscin sent a long ball from the left back to send Evan Kirby on a breakaway. Wallace one-timed a cross to move within one of the Pacers.

With 39 seconds remaining, Gwynedd Mercy (1-13-1, 0-3 AEC) nearly found the equalizer. Kirby got his body on a corner kick and Hyde stopped the ball with his left at point-break range.

Marywood looks to move up the Atlantic East standings Saturday at Marymount University.
