Dominant Fifth Set Preserves Tri-Match Split

Marywood scores first seven points of deciding fifth set

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University staved off a Rutgers Camden comeback with a dominant deciding fifth set to preserve a split at its final tri-meet of the season. The Pacers dropped to Marymount University 3-0 in Atlantic East volleyball action before prevailing 3-2 over the Scarlet Raptors.

After letting a two-set lead evaporate, the Pacers held on for a 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 15-3 victory over Rutgers Camden.

Marywood won the first seven points on Sydney Steiner serves in the fifth set. The Pacers had seven kills on 10 attempts (.700 attack percentage) in the fifth.

Corr had team-highs with 18 kills and 15 digs. She committed just two errors for a .457 attack percentage.

Casey Hagerstrom finished with nine kills and four blocks. Mikayla Meek had eight kills, nine digs and 16 assists.

Sydney Steiner tallied 22 assists. Donna Bostjancic totaled 14 digs. Libby Smith had four aces.

Steiner opened the fifth set with an ace. Emily O'Brien followed with a kill, and Smith tacked on another kill. Meek capped the run with a point to stretch the lead to 7-0. After Camden took two points, O'Brien returned serve with a kill. Smith had a pair of aces in a service run that extended the lead to 12-2. Bostjancic had an ace for match point.

In the opening set, Corr broke a 21-21 with a kill. Hagerstrom and Smith blocked to take a 23-21 lead. Hagerstrom finished the winning four-point run with a set point.

Marywood came back from a second set deficit of 4-0. The Pacers broke two set points en route to the win. Trailing 24-22, Corr started the rally with a kill. Hagerstrom tied the match with a kill of her one. Corr punched the victory with a kill for the 26-24 win.

Marymount 3, Marywood 2

Marymount defeated the Pacers by scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-7 to remain undefeated in conference play.

Corr had half of the Pacers' kills with nine. She had a .179 attack percentage with five digs.

Marywood travels to FDU-Florham on Thursday at 7 p.m.
