Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pacers Shut Out Immaculata, 4-0

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University women's soccer defeated Immaculata University 4-0 Wednesday afternoon.

Marywood (9-5-1, 5-0 AEC) won their eighth game in a row - the last three by shutout - behind a goal and two assists from Josephine Sorce. Emily Welsh scored her first collegiate goal, Carly Walters netted her team-leading ninth goal of the year and Victoria Tzitzis added her seventh in the win.

The Pacers got on the board in the 12th minute when Sorce tapped in a ball on the end line off a long direct kick from Brooke Longstreet. Marywood went up 2-0 in the 36th minute when Sorce won the ball at the top of the 18, dropped it to an open Welsh who hit it under the crossbar from 25 yards out.

Marywood led in shots 17-3 at halftime which included a 8-1 mark in shots on goal. To start the second half, Immaculata played much tighter and generated several dangerous looks, one of which was pushed away by Rebekah Becker to keep the Mighty Macs off the board.  Marywood edged Immaculata 7-6 in shots in the opening 28 minutes of the second half before Walters broke free off a feed from Sorce and made it 3-0 with a shot from 12 yards out.

Tztizis closed the scoring for the day with an unassisted tally in the 88th minute. Tzitzis took the ball off a throw in along the right touchline and cut in, striking a low near post shot for the final goal of the game.

In all, Marywood outshot the Mighty Macs 31-8 (15-4 on goal). Becker picked up another clean sheet with four stops. Her counterpart Emily Guthier made 11 saves for Immaculata, who fell to 3-11-1 (1-3 AEC) with the loss.

Marywood travels to Neumann University Saturday for a 1:00 pm game in Aston.
