Women's Soccer Clinches Top Seed for 3rd Straight Year

Pacers tie at Neumann 1-1, will host throughout playoffs

Aston, Pa. - Marywood University women's soccer tied at Neumann University 1-1 Saturday as the Pacers clinched the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament with the draw.

Marywood - unbeaten in their last nine (8-0-1) - clinched the top seed for the third consecutive year (no season in 2020 due to Covid pandemic). Brooke Longstreet scored the Pacers' goal on a first-half penalty kick.

Riley Mulherin got a decent look in the box in the 12th minute and was fouled by the goalkeeper, resulting in the penalty kick that Longstreet put home for a 1-0 Marywood lead. Some physical play resulted in Marywood players getting hurt, including goalkeeper Rebekah Becker. Becker would come out after one collision, only to return 10 minutes later and be hit again on another collision.

After the second collision, Mila Elash stayed in between the pipes for the Pacers. Neumann found the equalizer in the 37th minute as a perfectly placed Chloe Britton corner kick found the back post netting.

Marywood outshot the Knights 6-3 in the opening half, and despite turning up the offensive pressure in the second half, could not find the winner. Midway through the second frame, Elash made a diving save to keep the Knights from doing more damage, and Mulherin's breakaway with less than 45 seconds left missed near-post netting by inches.

Marywood outshot Neumann 17-3 in the second half, but only put three of those shots on frame.

For the game, Becker (25:41) and Elash (64:19) each had two saves for the Pacers while their counterpart Leona Macrina made five stops.

Marywood (9-5-2) travels to Penn College Tuesday to close out their regular season with a non-conference matchup against the Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm in Williamsport.but
