Field Hockey Mashes Manhattanville to Advance to AEC Semis

Jordan Saybe, Emma Wagner score first career goals

Scranton, Pa. — Third-seeded Marywood University overcame No. 6 Manhattanville College 3-2 to advance to the Atlantic East Conference field hockey semifinals on Saturday. The Pacers have reached the Atlantic East semifinals in all four years of the conference's history.

Jordan Saybe and Emma Wagner scored their first collegiate goals to help the Pacers advance. Lauren Youngken had two assists.

Marywood out-shot the Valiants 22-5 and had a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Marywood's first goal of the game came in the third minute when Youngken redirected a shot that came off of a penalty corner, and Saybe was there to knock it in. Just seven minutes later, Wagner put them ahead 2-0. Grace LePage crossed the ball from the right side to set up Wagner for her first goal of her career.

After the Valiants cut the lead in half in the 20th minute, the Pacers' third goal came in the 46th minute when Brianna Sumner tapped in Youngken's deflection from 5 yards out. This tallies her sixth goal of the season for Sumner.

Rachel Yohn finished with two saves.

The Pacers will face No. 2 seed Cabrini in Radnor in the Atlantic East Conference semi on Wednesday at a time to be determined.
