Hackettstown, N.J. - Marywood University women's soccer defeated Centenary University 7-0 to open Atlantic East Conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Pacers, winners of four straight, level their record at 5-5-1 (1-0 AEC).
Marywood outscored their opponents by an identical 7-0 score for the second consecutive game. Six different players netted goals for the Pacers, who outshot the hosts 27-6 (16-2 on goal).
Mackenzie Bennett opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a 35 yard shot to the far post. Nearly 18 minutes later, Carly Walters finished a settled ball from Riley Mulherin - who crashed with the Cyclone keeper outside the 18 - into an empty net.
Marywood exploded for five second half goals. In the 53rd, Brooke Longstreet rebounded her own shot off the post to put the Pacers up 3-0. Two minutes later, Josephine Sorce finished a feed from Caroline Walters.
In the 66th minute of action, Mulherin scored off a helper from Sarah Kretchmer. Mulherin added another goal 13 minutes on a breakaway.
Julia Rodriguez closed the scoring on the afternoon with a beautiful one-time finish on a Sorce corner kick.
Marywood had 11 corner kicks and only allowed two. Rebekah Becker (2 saves, 70 minutes) and Mika Elash (20 minutes) combined for the clean sheet for the second consecutive game.
Marywood hosts Cabrini Saturday at 12:00 pm in a rematch of last season's AEC title game that the Cavaliers won in penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie.
