Seniors Shine to Lead Field Hockey Past Griffins

Shannon Gosline scores two goals for the Pacers

Scranton, Pa. — On their Senior Day, the Marywood University field hockey veterans stood out in a 5-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday. The Pacers remain undefeated in Atlantic East Conference play through two games.

The Pacers acknowledged seniors Shannon Gosline, Rachel Yohn, Klaira Bievenour and Angie Genter — all of whom had breakout performances in front of their friends and family.

Gosline scored two goals to lead the Pacers offensively. Gosline put the first points on the board with an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, retrieving a rebound and smacking it in at the goal line. She capped the scoring off with a 58th minute goal, redirecting a Riley Kennedy pass past the keeper.

Genter put the Pacers ahead 4-0 when she gracefully one-touched a hard Lauren Youngken pass into the box on a breakaway chance.

Bievenour had two defensive saves. Yohn earned a shutout with six saves.

Marywood had two back-to-back woman-up goals. Brianna Sumner put the Pacers ahead 2-0 in the 15th minute. Belle Coleman rocketed Youngken pass at the top of the circle.

Youngken finished with two assists. Grace LePage added a defensive save.

Despite the lopsided score, Gwynedd Mercy outshot Marywood by a 13-12 margin. The Griffins had an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Marywood travels to Immaculata University on Tuesday afternoon.
