Volleyball Goes 1-2 on the Weekend with Win over Wilkes

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University volleyball capped their three-match weekend with a win over Wilkes University on Saturday. The Pacers fell to Cabrini University and University of Scranton. 

Cabrini went 2-1 on the weekend with a win over the Colonels and a loss to the Royals. 

Marywood 3, Wilkes 0

Marywood defeated the Colonels by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-23. 

Shannon Corr finished with 10 kills, six aces, and two block assists. She had just three errors on 19 attempts for a .368 attack percentage. 

Libby Smith tied for the fifth most single-match aces in school history. She had eight aces to go with six kills for 14 points. 

Casey Hagerstrom continued her Atlantic East Conference-best attack percentage witha. .375 mark. She had seven kills. 

Defensively, Donna Bostjancic had 12 digs. Mikayla Meek and Sydney Steiner contributed with 16 and 12 assists, respectively. 

Collectively, Marywood had 19 aces.

Wilkes' Nicole Fitzpatrick had nine kills. 

Cabrini 3, Marywood 0

The Cavaliers defeated the Colonels by scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-17. Cabrini shot .321 for the match, and the Pacers had a .088 mark. 

Mikayla Meek finished with seven kills and eight assists. Shannon Corr had 11 digs, and Donna Bostjancic had 10 digs. 

Cabrini's Hannah Dalton had 12 kills, 13 digs, and a .393 attack percentage. Sam Heenan provided 13 kills. Gina Custer factored in with 19 digs. 

Scranton 3, Marywood 1

Marywood took the crosstown Royals to four sets. Scranton won by scores of 26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16. 

The Pacers received eight kills from Shannon Corr and Mikayla Meek. Both attackers led the team with .227 and .143 hitting percentages, respectively. Meek added 13 assists. 

Sydney Steiner had a team-best 14 assists. 

Donna Bostjancic came one shy of a season-high with 23 digs. She added three aces. 

Scranton's Catherine O'Sullivan finished with 15 kills and a .393 attack percentage. Gianna Detorie added 22 assists and five aces. 

The Royals came back from a 20-14 disadvantage in the first set. After the Royals' Deanna Whepley evened the score at 22-22, Marywood earned set point when Casey Hagerstrom had a kill to go ahead 24-23. Scranton scored three points to close the match on a Whepley kill. 

After the Royals handily took the second set, Marywood went ahead 10-8 in the third on five straight points on Evangeline Kelly serves. On their next service, Marywood scored another five consecutive points. Scranton spoiled the first two set points, and Corr earned a kill to extend the match to four games. 

Marywood will travel to Centenary University on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
