Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss to #10 Scranton

Pacers remained within single digits to perennial powerhouse into second half

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University stayed competitive into the second half against No. 10 University of Scranton in a 67-51 loss Tuesday in women's basketball. It is the Pacers' closest result to the cross-town Royals since the 2014-15 season.

Marywood (1-1) stayed within single digits into the third quarter when Abbey McGree hit a layup in the paint on the first possession. The national powerhouse Royals went on a 16-4 run for the remaining of the third quarter. Marywood outscored Scranton 16-12 in the fourth.

Savannah Purdy was the lone Pacer in double figures with 14 points. Olivia Ciullo and McGee each finished with eight-point performances.

Kate Baylor came off the bench to provided a team-best nine rebounds.

Scranton (3-0) received 20 points from Samantha Rajza. Hannah Angelini had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams had nearly identical outings from the floor. Marywood (39.2) shot just a hair under Scranton's mark of 39.4 percent. The Royals had a 43-33 advantage in rebounds.

Scranton made the best of Pacers' giveaways with a 33-14 advantage in points off turnovers.

Marywood led early on when Ciullo made a jumper to take a 10-7 advantage midway through the first quarter.

The Pacers welcome Rutgers-Newark to the Insalaco Arena on Thursday at 6 p.m.
