Jason Holman sinks buzzer beater to send game to Double Overtime

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University came short in double overtime with a 91-87 loss to Stevenson University on Saturday. The loss evens the Pacers' men's basketball squa's record to 2-2 on the season.

In the second overtime, Stevenson forced back-to-back steals to turn the lead in its favor. KJ Holton made a floater in the past after Ethan Jones swiped a ball. On the next Pacers' possession, McKale Williams had a team to forced a pair of Connor Walsh free throws to go ahead 87-83 with 3:08 remaining.

Holman tipped in his own missed shot to make it a one possession game. Three missed 3-pointers enabled Holton and Williams to make four straight free throws to steal the victory.

Marywood trailed by as many as 11 points midway through the first half. In the second half,  Vigil made 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to cut the Mustangs' lead to two (48-46) with 14:07 remaining in regulation.

It wouldn't be until eight straight points by Holman that the Pacers would take the lead. He tied the game with a 3-pointer at the top of the key to make it 65-65 with 5:55 left in the contest. His free throw gave Marywood's first advantage, and he scored on a layup to retake the lead.

Corey Perkins put Marywood ahead 70-69 when Holman found him driving for a layup with 1:11 left in the second half. Perkins doubled Marywood's lead with a free throw at 26 seconds, but Holton connected on both of his attempts to send the game to overtime.

Both teams finished with 38 rebounds. Marywood shot 47.3 percent from the floor to the Mustangs' 48.3 percent mark. The two teams combined for 50 turnovers. Free-throw shooting was the difference in the game. Stevenson was 75.8 percent from the line, while Marywood made just 41.7 percent of its attempts.

Perkins and Mendygral each had six assists.

Five Mustangs were in double figures. Cameron Smith led with 20 points. Williams and Holton each had 18 points. Connor Walsh totaled 14, and Davon Jones had 10 points.
