Pacers Storm Back in Fourth Quarter Comeback

Ciullo finished with 17 points

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Marywood University came back from a double-digit second half deficit to down Wilkes University 68-60 Saturday in the opening game of the Cross County Challenge. The Pacers' women's basketball squad outscored the Colonels 23-8 in the fourth quarter.

Marywood improves to 3-1 record on the 2022 season. It will take on King's College in the second day of the tournament on Sunday in Wilkes' Marts Center.

Four Pacers — Olivia Ciullo, Abbey McGee, Savannah Purdy, and Stephanie Klemick — finish the game with double digits in points. This game marked the Pacers' fourth consecutive win over the Colonels.

Ciullo led the Pacers with 17 points. McGee had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Klemick also featured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Purdy netted 15 points.

Trailing by seven heading into the fourth, Marywood opened the period with nine unanswered points. McGee drained a jumper at 6:50 on a pretty Purdy pass to even the score at 52-52. On the next possession, Purdy gave the Pacers a lead with a layup on a fast break after a Klemick block.

After Wilkes evened the score, Ciullo regained the lead on a jump shot to go ahead 56-54 at 4:27. Marywood outscored the Colonels 10-2 over the next three minutes, taking a 64-56 lead on a pair of McGee free throws.

Marywood held a 19-16 lead at the end of the first quarter but was unable to capitalize in the second. Marywood put up seven points in the second quarter versus 16 points from Wilkes, and was down 26-32 going into halftime.

The Pacers outrebounded the Colonels 44-35. Marywood had a 43.9 percent-to-36.5 percent advantage from the field. Marywood's defense kept Wilkes to a 15 percent mark from 3-point range.

The Pacers take on King's College for a 1pm matchup on Sunday.
