Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Championship Bound! Women's Soccer Advances to Final with 3-0 Win

Scranton, Pa. - Behind three different goal scorers, top-seeded Marywood University advanced to Saturday's Atlantic East Women's Soccer Championship game with a victory over fifth-seeded Marymount University. The Pacers blanked the Saints, 3-0.

Brooke Longstreet assisted on the Pacers' first goal in the 5th minute. Longstreet sent in a direct kick that was headed to the back post by Emily Welsh and was promptly finished by Kate Kollar-Dye.

In the 10th minute, Riley Mulherin sent a ball in from midfield to Victoria Tzitzis, who beat the Marymount keeper and finished into an open net to double the Pacers' lead.

Despite out-shooting the visitors 11-4 in the opening half, Marywood would not find the back of the net again until the late stages of the game. Marymount used a strong second half offensive effort to continually threaten, but Rebekah Becker and the Pacers' defense held firm to keep the clean sheet. Becker made seven total saves, including a phenonemal tip over the bar on a close range shot, to keep the Saints off the board.

Josephine Sorce put the game away in the final minute, taking a corner from Mulherin and finding the back corner of the net from the left edge of the 18.

Marywood earned their 10th win of the season and have reached every Atlantic East championship match since the conference formed in 2018. Marywood will take on #3 seed Neumann University, who tied Cabrini 1-1 and advanced to the final with a 4-2 penalty kick win.

Marywood has now reached the double-digit victory total in 13 of Head Coach Andrew Smith's 23 years at the helm.

Marywood played Neumann to a 1-1 draw on the road to close the regular season. The Pacers own a 6-2-2 record against the Knights in their last 10 matchups. Kickoff on Saturday in Scranton is scheduled for 1:00 pm with the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.
