Women's Basketball Keeps Streak Alive with 77-66 Win at Wilkes

Olivia Ciullo, Abbey McGee finish with double-doubles

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Marywood University extended its winning streak to four with a 77-66 victory over Wilkes University Monday in women's basketball. The Pacers defeated the Colonels for the second time in 10 days after beating their Northeastern Pennsylvania foes in the Cross County Challenge.
 
It marks the Pacers' fifth consecutive victory over the Colonels. Dating back to 2007-08, the Pacers have a 13-3 advantage over Wilkes.
 
Olivia Ciullo led the Pacers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Abbey McGee provided 16 points and 13 rebounds. McGee complemented her double-double with four blocks and five assists.
 
Savannah Purdy finished with 18 points. She was 8 for 16 from the field. She added four assists.
 
Jade Rolon enjoyed season-highs of eight points and eight rebounds. Kate Baylor came off of the bench for eight points and seven boards.
 
The Pacers outrebounded the Colonels by a 58-48 margin. Marywood shot 38.2 percent from the field and held Wilkes to 30.7 percent. Wilkes shot 88.2 percent from the charity stripe, and Marywood made 61.1 percent of its attempts.
 
After giving up the first points of the game, Marywood did not trail the rest of the way.
 
Wilkes tied the game at 15-15 in the second quarter on a Jordyn Jennings pair of free throws. After McGee and Wilkes' Erin Shober exchanged baskets, Ciullo reclaimed the lead with a jump shot at 4:05 to take the lead. It sparked a 10-point run over three minutes that ended in a Purdy layup to go ahead 27-17. She made a 3-pointer just before the half for her seventh straight point, leaving Marywood with a nine-point advantage at halftime.
 
Leading by as many as 19, the Pacers let their lead drop to two possessions. Wilkes went on a 17-2 run. Yamirelis Matos made a layup to cut Marywood's lead down to 66-62 with 91 seconds left. McGee made six straight free throws over a 30-second span to secure the win for Marywood.
 
The Pacers look for their fifth straight win on Wednesday when they host Susquehanna University in the Insalaco Arena.
