Five in a Row! Pacers Prevail over Susquehanna

Abbey McGee notches a double-double

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University won its fifth consecutive women's basketball contest by outlasting Susquehanna University 53-44 on Wednesday evening. The Pacers earn their first five-game winning streak since the 2017-18 season. 

Abbey McGee finished with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Olivia Ciullo had 16 points and eight rebounds. 

Rachel McDonald came off the bench to score nine points. 

With a 6-1 record, Marywood has its best record since the 2013-13 season.

Susquehanna was led by Kenzie Selvaggi's 14 points. Alicia Goldenziel had 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Marywood's defense lifted the team to the win. Susquehanna had 22 giveaways to the Pacers' 14. The Pacers kept the River Hawks to 30.9 percent from the field. Marywood had a 15-6 advantage in points off turnovers, 13-1 lead in second-chance points and 13-5 favor in bench points. 

To start the second quarter, Susquehanna chipped at Marywood's four-point lead with a seven-point run. Vanessa Sabol hit a 3-pointer to take a 21-18 for the River Hawks. Marywood reclaimed the lead just before the half. Ciullo made a jumper at the top of the key to even the score at 23-23 with 1:26 remaining. On the next possession, she drained a 3-pointer from a Faith Kendricks' pass to take a 26-23 lead at halftime.

Susquehanna opened the fourth quarter by coming just arm's length of the Pacers. The River Hawks' Kaitlyn Lynch hit a jumper at 8:23 to move within one (36-35) on a Alicia Goldenziel pass. Marywood responded with a seven-point run. McDonald stuck the dagger in with a 3-pointer on a fast break via a McGee pass, taking a 43-35 lead with 3:53 left in the game. 

Marywood will welcome SUNY Delhi on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
