Lights-Out Second Half Lifts Pacers in Season Opener

Marywood shoots 81.25 percent in the third quarter

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University made two-thirds of its shots to break away for a 73-43 victory over Penn College Wednesday in the women's basketball season opener. The Pacers won their first season opener since the 2013-14 season. 

Marywood made 20 of 30 shots (66.67 percent) to break away in the second half. The Pacers hit 13 of 16 attempts (81.25 percent) in the third quarter and made half of its shots in the fourth. 

Abbey McGee scored a game-high 16 points. Olivia Ciullo was a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. 

Rachel McDonald made 3 of 6 shots from beyond the arc as part of a 13-point effort in her Marywood debut. Savannah Purdy scored 10 of her 12 points in the third quarter. 

Jade Rolon marshaled the offense with six assists. 

The Wildcats were led by Aubrey Stetts' 12 points. Lexi Troup scored 10 points. Ja'Quela Dyer had eight rebounds. 

The Pacers trailed early on but an eight-point run gave them a 12-6 lead on an Abbey McGee layup in the paint. Penn opened the second quarter with 10 straight points. Lexi Troup made a layup to take a 16-12 advantage. 

Marywood reclaimed the lead on a Faith Kendricks' jumper with three minute left to take a 19-17 advantage. 

The Pacers outscored the Wildcats 24-4 in the first eight minutes of the third quarter. 

Marywood shot 47.7 percent from the field for the game. It was a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe.
