Men's Basketball Brought Down by Golden Wolves

Mason Mendygral leads Pacers with 16 points

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University fell to Alvernia University 96-68 on Monday in non-conference men's basketball action. The Golden Wolves broke out of a second-half tie with 14 unanswered points.

Mason Mendygral led the Pacers with 16 points. He was 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Jason Holman had 12 points, and Brandon Reed scored nine in eight minutes. 

Trailing by five at the break, Marywood evened the score in the first four minutes of the second half. Holmen made a layup on a Brendan Franko assist to tie the game at 43-43. The Golden Wolves had 14 straight points, capped by a Nigel Cooke layup to go ahead 57-43 at the 13-minute mark. 

Alvernia had four players in double figures. Cooke had a game-high 22 points. Jakob Kelly had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Keba Mitchell and Malik Green tallied 16 and 10 points, respectively. 

The Golden Wolves had a 46.7-to-41.7 percent advantage in field goal percentage. The rebounding differential (53-31) went in the favor of Alvernia.

Marywood will finish off 2022 on Thursday, Dec. 30 against Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) at 6 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
