Centenary Upends Men's Basketball in OT

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University men's basketball fell to Centenary University 95-94 in overtime Saturday. It was the Pacers' fifth overtime game this season.

Marywood (7-14, 2-7 Atlantic East) is now 1-4 in those overtime games. Conversely, the Cyclones played in their third overtime game this season where they are 3-0. Centenary improved to 9-10 overall (3-6 AEC).

Chris LaBelle and Isaac Poueriet combined for 63 points for the visitors. Adam Boussatta had 25 points and 11 boards for Marywood. LaBelle led all scorers with a game-high 38. Poueriet was perfect from the field, going 11-for-11, and added three free throws for 25 points. He also had 10 rebounds. Billy Veras, who had 12 defensive boards, had a game-high 13 rebounds and added 15 points for the Cyclones. Trevor Giordano (11 points) was the fourth visitor in double-digits.

Trevor Seitz had a double-double as well for Marywood, scoring 11 and adding 10 boards. Mason Mendygral had 17 for the Pacers.

Centenary had a 12-point (32-20) lead just over 10 minutes into Saturday's league contest. Down 34-22, Marywood used an 11-0 run to get back into the game. The two teams would trade leads the rest of the first half with the Pacers going into the lockerroom up one, 38-37.

Despite being a close contest for much of the second half, Marywood found themselves down seven (76-69) with 4:21 to go after a Veras lay-in. Back-to-back three's from Brendan Franko and Mendygral erased that deficit, and a pair of jumpers from Boussatta gave the Pacers the lead with 2:04 to play and capped a 10-0 run.

LaBelle sank a pair at the charity stripe to get the Cyclones with one (79-78), but they were down five again with 1:23 to play after a quick 4-0 burst from the Pacers. The Cyclones would hold the Pacers scoreless over the final 1:23 of regulation to force overtime after LaBelle made a lay-in with :17 left.

In overtime, a Veras three put the visitors up for good, despite a clock-expiring three from Marywood's Corey Perkins that made it a 95-94 final.

Marywood returns to the hardcourt Monday when they host Marymount University at 8:00 pm.
