Pacers Wear Down Cyclones in Second Half

Scranton, Pa. —Marywood University turned a one-possession game late in the third quarter into a 22-point victory for its second-straight Atlantic East Conference women's basketball victory. The Pacers trounced Centenary University 81-59 Saturday in the Insalaco Arena.

Marywood outscored Centenary 29-9 in the last 13 minutes of the game. 

The Pacers (9-10, 4-5) move to fifth place in the Atlantic East. The Cyclones remain winless in conference play with a 0-9 mark and a 7-11 record overall. 

Abbey McGee had a season-best 18 points. She was just a rebound short of a double-double and added four assists and four steals. 

Five Pacers finished in double digits for the first time this season. Olivia Ciullo and Savannah Purdy each finished with 15 points. Kilie Wyers tallied 11 points, and Faith Kendricks came off the bench to score 10. 

For the second straight game, Marywood's performance off the glass played a deciding factor. The Pacers out-rebounded the Cyclones by a 47-30 margin. Marywood controlled the inside with a 48-16 advantage in points in the paint. 

Both teams were proficient offensively in the first half. Centenary made 53.33 percent from the field in the first quarter, and Marywood went into halftime by making half its shots. In the first half, the lead changed eight times with four scores tied. Trailing 35-32, Marywood closed out the first half with 10 unanswered points, thanks to a pair of baskets from Kendricks. Purdy scored a traditional three-point play to go into the break with a 42-35 advantage. 

Centenary crawled back to get within two points in the third quarter. Kaylie Elsbree knocked down a 3-pointer to cut Marywood's lead to 52-50. Following a Ciullo bucket, Salma Eddahari made a layup to put the Cyclones with a 54-52 reach at the 3:18 mark. Marywood went 12-2 for the rest of the quarter, and McGee made six unanswered points in 42 seconds to end the stanza.

Centenary received 14 points from Eddahiri. Victoria Jacobs had 11 points, and Molly Collins totaled 10.

Marywood will return to the Insalaco Arena to take on Immaculata University on Monday at 6 p.m. Three of the past four meetings between the two IHM programs have been decided by a possession.
