Straub Finishes First in Mile, Joins Hamidi as Record Breakers

DMR ranks 42nd in Division III

Staten Island, N.Y. – A pair of Marywood University women's track and field records were set this weekend at the Fastrack National Invite in New York City. There was no team scoring at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex meet.

Milana Straub won the 1 Mile run en route to setting a new school record. Straub legged out a three-woman sprint to the finish for a 5:27.95 time. Teammate Katie Shea outran Albany's Mercedes Planavsky by seven-hundredths of a second to take silver.

In addition to being on top of the 28-woman field, Straub and Shea own the top two mile runs in Marywood history. They dropped 14 and 10 seconds, respectively, off their career bests. They rank 39^th and 40^th regionally.

Maryam Hamidi set a new school record in the 400. Hamidi dropped four seconds off her PR to complete the race in 1:02.82 for 55^th place. Her time currently ranks 21st regionally.

Hamidi also ran a PR for the fourth-fastest 60 dash time in program history. She dropped four-hundredths of a second to take 30th overall in 8.53 seconds.

Fellow Scranton High grad Awnshae Smith recorded a second-best high jump in Marywood history with a 13^th place performance. Smith cleared 4 feet, 9 inches (1.45m) to rank 22^nd in the region. Smith finished in seventh place in the 60 hurdles, crossing the finish in 9.95 seconds. She currently ranks 16^th in the region.

Hayley Gaines ranked second at Marywood in the 800. Gaines crossed the finish in 2:33.02 for 60^th place.

The women's distance medley relay came in seventh place overall. Straub, Hamidi, Gaines and Shea registered a time of 13:43.61. They currently rank 42^nd in Division III and 11^th in the region.
