Pacers Sweep Brandywine to Open 2022

Aston, Pa. - Jake Schuster and Kyle Morin each had a four hit day to lead Marywood University baseball to an opening day sweep of Penn State Brandywine Sunday afternoon at Maple Zone in Aston. The Pacers took the opener 9-4 and the nightcap 11-9.

Morin was 4-for-6 on the day with a grand slam while Schuster went 4-for-9 with a pair of doubles. Max Slusser went yard as well part of his 2-for-4 day. The trio each scored three runs in the pair of wins.

Joseph Bruno and Michael Aronica got wins on the mound while Tyler Quick picked up his first save of the season in the nightcap.

In the opening 9-4 win, Marywood jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Michael Tempel doubled home Schuster for the game's first run. PSU Brandywine quickly took the lead in the home half of the first, but Marywood responded with a four run third inning.

After the hosts got two back in the fourth, Slusser homered in the fifth to give the Pacers a two-run, 6-4 lead. James Myers then doubled to right center to bring in another run and put Marywood up 7-4. The Pacers added one more run in the sixth and seventh, the latter coming off a Morgan Theobald double, to complete the 9-4 victory.

In the nightcap, Vinny D'Auria homered in the first and Marywood would eventually build a 10-0 lead in the top of the fourth after Morin hit a grand slam. But that lead would be short lived as the hosts used an eight run fifth to get back to an 11-9 deficit before Quick shut the door for the save.

Marywood is slated to host Albright March 1, weather depending.
