Pacers Topple Behrend for Doubleheader Sweep

Fort Piece, Fla. - Marywood University closed their spring break trip to Florida by sweeping Penn State Behrend by scores of 4-1 and 5-1 Friday afternoon. The Pacers improve to 7-3 while Behrend drops to 7-4.

Marywood scored all four of their runs over the middle innings 4-1 opening game win. In the third, Morgan Theobald drove home the game's first run on an RBI double to right that scored Vinny D'Auria. In the fourth, the Pacers added two runs to their lead thanks to an RBI single from Ben Gravel and a RBI sacrifice fly from Quinton Roma.

Marywood made it 4-0 in the fifth when Theobald scored on a double-play. Behrend got their lone run in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout from Juston Jones.

Nick Notari (1-0) got the victory, allowing one run on five hits while striking out one in 5.1 innings of work. Joseph Bruno got his first save of the year after shutting the door on Behrend in the sixth and pitching a perfect seventh. Bruno struck out two and did not allow a hit.

Theobald finished the opener 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Gravel and Roma had the Pacers' other RBIs.

Michael Tempel started things for Marywood offensively with a RBI single in the first. The Pacers tacked on two more in the third on an RBI double from Jake Schuster, and, later, when Schuster scored on an error.

Marywood expanded their lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a sac fly to right from Theobald, and finished their scoring in the fifth on an RBI sac fly from Bruno.
