Softball Extends Win Streak to Six, Sweeps Soaring Eagles

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University softball improved to 8-2, extending their win streak to six games, with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Elmira College Monday afternoon.

Marywood took the opener 12-1 in five innings. In another dominating performance on the mound, Mara Hamm - the back-to-back Atlantic East Conference pitcher of the week - remained unbeaten on the mound, improving to 5-0 after striking out eight and allowing just four hits.

Seven batters for the Pacers picked up RBIs, led by two from Ashdon Clark. Lindsey Jason, Cait Becher and Brooke McKay all had doubles, while Juliana Beidler had a triple.

The Pacers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Clark drove in two with a single through the left side. An RBI triple from Beidler in the second put Marywood up 3-0, and the Pacers tacked on five more thanks to an RBI double from Jason, RBI single from Nina Kozar and a couple of unearned runs on errors.

After Elmira got one back in the third on an RBI triple, Marywood plated four more in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch, RBI double from Becker, sac fly from McKay and RBI single from Hamm.

A three run homer by Clark in the opening inning of game two was all Marywood needed, but Becca Zale put another run on the board with an RBI single to third to give the Pacers a 4-0 lead after one. The long ball marked Clark's fourth collegiate homer and first in a Marywood uniform. In the second, Clark doubled to right center to bring in her fourth RBI in just two innings.

Kozar tripled down the left field line to open the fourth, and Marywood would load the bases on a pair of walks and a stolen base. Annie Heyen would then drive in two runs with a single up the middle to make it 7-0, and Kristie Epler's single to center in the next at-bat put Marywood up 8-0.

Gianna Marsico won her third game in a row to improve to 3-2, striking out four while allowing just one hit in the win.

Marywood will travel to Delaware Valley College tomorrow for a 3:00 pm doubleheader. The game, originally slated for Thursday, has been moved up to Tuesday due to expected inclement weather later in the week.
