Pacers Match Best Start Since 2015, Down King's 13-4

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. - Marywood University extended a near program record win streak to six games and in the process matched their best start since 2015, improving to 10-3 on the year after defeating King's College 13-4 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

Marywood's last six-game win streak came from March 12-30, 2015, while the program record is eight games from April 9-17, 2005.

Trailing 4-2 entering the sixth, Marywood scored 11 runs over the final three innings to seal the victory. Marywood plated two runs in both the sixth and seventh before exploding for a seven-run eighth. The game was called one inning short of a complete nine inning affair due to darkness.

The Pacers took a 2-0 lead in their first at bat after an RBI double from Michael Tempel and a RBI single from Ben Gravel. King's quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the opening inning, then took a 4-2 lead with two more runs in the third.

In the sixth, an RBI groundout from James Myers got the Pacers to within one, and Gravel would later score on a wild pitch to tie things up at 4-4.

Kyle Morin's two-run double in the seventh gave Marywood the winning runs, but the Pacers tacked on seven more the next inning. Quinton Roma and Matthew Ortiz started off the scoring with RBI base hits, the later of which from Ortiz came on a bunt. Morgan Theobald and Jake Schuster then had back-to-back RBI doubles, and another RBI single from Gravel brought home Schuster to make it 12-4. AJ Giannetti then brought home the final run of the ballgame with a run-scoring single through the left side that plated Tempel.

For the game, Gravel finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Morin also added two RBI. Giannetti and Roma both had two hits while Schuster and Tempel both scored three runs.

The Pacers used five pitchers in the win, with the final three - AJ Jordan, Joseph Bruno and Matthew Klipple, combining for four strikeouts without allowing a hit over the last four innings. Jordan (2-0) got the win on the mound. Marywood pitchers only allowed two hits in the game while the Pacers had 14 base knocks of their own.

Marywood opens Atlantic East Conference action Friday when they host Centenary University at 3:00 pm.
