Pacers Rally for 10-9 Win Over Centenary, Quick Sets Saves Record

Scranton, Pa. - Just 14 games into the season, Tyler Quick entered the Marywood baseball record book as he picked up his fourth save of the year - a single season record - as the Pacers rallied to defeat Centenary University 10-9 in the Atlantic East Conference opener for both schools.

Marywood extended their win streak to seven games, matching a 2006 streak that went from March 29-April 9. The Pacers are one win shy of tying their program best eight game unbeaten streak (April 9-17, 2005) and their 11-3 start is now the best in program history.

Quick and middle reliever Joseph Bruno (3-0) combined to strike out seven and allow just three hits over 5.1 innings, giving the Pacers' bat enough time to mount an offensive comeback. Each pitched 3.2 innings of relief, with Bruno getting the win after striking out four and allowing one run on two hits. Quick struck out three and allowed just one hit without walking a batter over 1.2.

Centenary (6-9) jumped out in front 3-0 in the top of the second thanks to a three-run double from Paul Links. Ben Gravel got one back for the Pacers in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI triple to right, scoring Vinny D'Auria on the play. Marywood would get another run the next inning on a Jake Schuster infield single to the pitcher that scored D'Auria.

After allowing five runs in the top of the fourth to the Cyclones, which included a three-run homer from Links, Marywood responded with eight runs over the next three innings to take a 10-8 lead.

Gravel and Matthew Ortiz had RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth, and James Myers' two-run homer over the left field fence in the fifth cut the Pacers' deficit to 8-6.

In the sixth, Schuster drove in a run with a single down the left field line, and Kyle Morin's double down the right field line brought home Schuster and D'Auria to give the Pacers a 9-8 lead. Myers then reached base on a muffed throw, and Michael Tempel scored on the play to give the Pacers an insurance run and a two-run lead (10-8).

After holding the Cyclones scoreless for three consecutive innings, Marywood gave up one run in the eighth on a Jon Fleck double to right as Jake Keenan scored all the way from first. Unable to extend their lead, the Pacers would leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth as the frame ended on an unassisted groundout at third base.

At the plate, Myers went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and two RBI. Morin was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Schuster and Gravel both went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Morgan Theobald added a double and Gravel had a triple.

Marywood travels to Centenary tomorrow for a doubleheader as the Pacers and Cyclones complete their three-game regular season series. Game one is set to get underway at 12:00 pm.
