Pacers Unseat Monarchs for Best Start in Eight Seasons

Marywood sits at 5-3 for first time since 2015 campaign

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University secured its best men's lacrosse start in eight seasons after a 12-4 win over King's College on a rainy Wednesday night men's lacrosse. The Pacers are 5-3 after eight games for the first time since 2015.

The Pacers erased a two-goal disadvantage in the opening three minutes. Marywood responded to early Monarchs' lead with a seven-goal run.

Marywood ends a three-game losing streak in the cross-county battle with the Monarchs. The Pacers take a 5-4 edge in the all-time series history.

John Scibello led the Pacers with five goals and an assist for six points. Ben Mustakos finished with two goals and an assist. Dalton Metzger added a pair of goals.

At the x, Nick Ericson won 13 of 19 faceoffs at a 68.4 percent clip. Ericson collected nine ground balls.

Seth Croll battled on the defensive side of the field with three caused turnovers. Kieran Scanlan picked up five ground balls. Dillon Kane added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

In net, Connor Reed proved to be a brick wall once again with 15 saves and a .789 save percentage. Reed tallied five ground balls and caused one turnover.

Marywood outshot King's by a 45-33 margin. The Pacers earned 42 ground balls to the Monarchs' 32.

The Monarchs went ahead 2-0 in the opening 2:40. Ben Spencer scored off a Gabe Vansuch feed at 13:18, and Ryan Barnes added a goal 58 seconds later.

Scibello wasted little time in turning Marywood's fortunes around. He picked up a ground ball off of a faceoff and charged for an unassisted goal 14 seconds later. Mustakos scored the equalizer at 10:29. Scanlan had a ground ball pickup on a failed King's clear, and Mustakos sent one into the net to even the score at 2-2.

Marywood's go-ahead goal came from an unassisted Scibello tally at the 5:11 mark of the first quarter. Metzger increased the lead to 4-2 a mere 41 seconds later.

Metzger capped the run on a Mustakos-assisted goal in the opening minute of the second quarter. It was the lone goal of the frame as the Pacers went into halftime with a 7-2 advantage.

Marywood looks to increase its win streak to three on Saturday at Albright College.
